Corsica's Liberation: France Pays Tribute To Morocco And Its Soldiers

French president François Hollande expressed on Friday in Bastia, his gratitude and recognition to Morocco, its sovereign and late King Mohammed V on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Corsica with the help of Moroccan fighters.

During a public ceremony at the Saint-Nicolas square in Bastia and in the presence of HRH Prince Moulay Rachid representing the sovereign and several Moroccan war veterans, Hollande reiterated his gratitude and recognition for the presence of Morocco to commemorate this huge victory against the Nazi colonizer.

The celebration of this historical event is a new occasion to remind our two nations of this shared memory, he said, recalling the call by the sovereign's grand father on September 30, 1939, to help France recover its freedom.

France will never forget the courage of late king Mohammed V in defending the values of freedom and human dignity which earned him the title of companion of liberation granted by Gen. de Gaulle, he noted.
