El Salvador Joins the Rest of the World in Withdrawing Recognition of ‘RASD’: President Bukele

Salvadoran President, Nayib Bukele, said Saturday in San Salvador that his decision to immediately sever diplomatic relations with the ‘Polisario’, "a virtual entity", enables El Salvador to “join the rest of the world while respecting Morocco’s sovereignty".

"For ideological reasons, El Salvador had recognized a virtual republic that does not exist and that has neither a territory nor a population," the President of El Salvador pointed out at a joint press briefing with the Moroccan minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita.

"El Salvador's relations with Morocco and all Arab countries have since weakened due to a decision that makes no sense and which was taken for purely ideological reasons," President Bukele said.

Admitting that the decision to recognize the "SADR" has "isolated (his) country from Morocco and the Arab world", the President of El Salvador expressed the willingness of his country to strengthen relations of cooperation with the Kingdom in all areas.

El Salvador announced on Saturday its decision to withdraw its recognition of the so-called "SADR", and voiced its support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco, its national sovereignty, as well as the autonomy initiative as the only possible solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara.
