FAAPA Serves as Development Vehicle for More Visible African Information Space - Culture Minister

The Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA) serves as a structuring institutional vehicle for cooperation, promoting the development of a more coherent and visible African information space, said the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid.

The Federation is establishing itself as a structuring institutional framework for cooperation, enabling African press agencies to pool their expertise and strengthen their professional capacities, Bensaid said on Wednesday in a speech delivered on his behalf at the opening of the 9th General Assembly of FAAPA.

Through this Assembly, he pointed out, the aim is to consolidate this collective momentum, strengthen synergies among African media institutions, and continue reflection on the role of information in building an inclusive Africa that is attentive to its territories and its youth.

In this regard, the Minister affirmed that Morocco’s engagement in this field is fully in line with its African trajectory, noting that the Kingdom, faithful to its continental roots, works in favor of South–South cooperation based on partnership, solidarity, and the sharing of experiences.

Bensaid also recalled that territorial inclusion and spatial justice are emerging as structuring principles for any public action aimed at stability and sustainable development.

Noting that spatial justice is not limited to the distribution of investments or infrastructure, the governmental official explained that it also includes the recognition of territories in the public sphere, with a faithful representation of their realities.

He further noted that through their daily work, the media contribute to shedding light on public action, fostering citizens’ ownership of policies and major projects, and strengthening social cohesion.

The 9th FAAPA General Assembly, being held from January 28 to 30 in Marrakech, brings together Directors General of African press agencies that are members of FAAPA, alongside experts, researchers, institutional officials and decision-makers, to reflect on the actions that the media can undertake to support the transformations of the continent and contribute to more balanced, more equitable development firmly rooted in territories.
