Film Sector: 100 mln DH Granted in 2018

The amount of subsidies allocated to the film sector has reached 100 million dirhams (DH) in 2018, the ministry of Culture and Communication said in a statement.

In 2018, 23 million Dirhams was allocated to film festivals in addition to a budget of 2 million DH dedicated to the support of cinemas, said minister of Culture and Communication Mohamed Laâraj, who chaired on Thursday a meeting of the board of directors of the Moroccan Cinema Centre (CCM).

Laâraj described as "very positive" the record of the Moroccan film sector in 2018, noting that this result shows the efforts made by the government as well as by institutional partners and professionals to develop the sector.

The minister also said that 75 million DH was allocated to support film production in 2018, including 15 million DH for the production of documentary films dealing in particular with culture and history.

For his part, director of the CCM, Sarim Fassi Fihri, highlighted the various achievements of the sector for the year 2018.

At this meeting, the CCM board of directors agreed to initiate the drafting of a decree on the national film library and to organize a study day in partnership with professional chambers on the national cinematographic landscape.
