ISIS-linked Terrorist Cell Operating in Inzegane and Ait Melloul Smashed (BCIJ)

As part of the ongoing efforts to fight the terrorist threats that threaten the security of the Kingdom, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), under the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), dismantled on Monday a terrorist cell made up of three individuals, aged 26 to 28, affiliated with "ISIS" and operating in the cities of Inzegane and Ait Melloul.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the leader of this cell and his accomplices pledged allegiance to the self-proclaimed caliph of "ISIS", before planning the execution of terrorist operations aimed at undermining the security and stability of the Kingdom, said a statement from the BCIJ.

According to the investigation and follow-up procedures, the members of this terrorist cell were looking for firearms and products and substances used in the manufacture of explosive devices, while encouraging the terrorist operations of "ISIS" in several foreign countries, added the same source.

This operation resulted in the seizure of large and medium-sized knives, electronic devices and extremist documents, said the BCIJ.

The operation happened amid a context marked by an upsurge of terrorist threats against the security of the Kingdom, and the persistence of individuals imbued with extremist ideology to serve the destructive agendas of various terrorist organizations, the same source noted.

The suspects were taken into custody for further investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, pending trial as soon as the investigation ends, the statement concluded.
