'Le Figaro' Praises Morocco as Fall Season Escape

As the summer holidays draw to a close, Morocco continues to be a popular travel destination recommended by specialist guides, such as France's own Le Figaro, which invites readers to “explore the lesser-known aspects” of the Kingdom during autumn break.

“This fall, head to a little-known Morocco, where you can enjoy gastronomic discoveries, breathtaking landscapes, and artistic gems,” the French media outlet writes, which shares its five “best ideas” for this “Moroccan-style” getaway on the travel page of its website.

Savoring local products around Fez through unique culinary stops, diving in Tangier's art and culture realms, strolling through the paradisiacal valleys of the Anti-Atlas Mountains from Taroudant, roaming the Kingdom's ancient sites and enjoying the charms of the late season on "the Moroccan Riviera " (between Fnideq and Martil) are few of the charming stops suggested to readers.

Le Figaro guide invites readers first and foremost to savor local products around Fez, where hills, mountains, and valleys carpeted with orchards “are full of perfect gourmet itineraries.”

The outlet then recommends enjoying the late season on the Moroccan Riviera, staying at Tamuda Bay (35 kilometers of fine sand stretching between Fnideq and Martil), 1.5 hours from Tangier, against the backdrop of Rif Mountains' foothills.

"On the Mediterranean side, you can enjoy all types of maritime pleasures, from swimming in divinely translucent water to feasting on grilled sardines, and on the land side, you can choose from a rich catalog of cultural and nature walks: hikes in the mountains of the hinterland, visits to Tetouan, the most Andalusian of Morocco's medinas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or excursions to Chefchaouen, a charming Rif village whose maze of blue-colored streets exudes boundless charm," Le Figaro enthuses.

It also recommends “going back to the roots of ancient Morocco” from Lixus to Volubilis, the famous UNESCO-listed archaeological site and “one of the major witnesses to Roman civilization in North Africa,” before enriching the experience with hikes in the “paradise valleys” around Taroudant.
