Minister of Agriculture Holds Talks in Abidjan with AfDB President
Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Waters and Forests, Aziz Akhannouch, held talks Wednesday in Abidjan with President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinuwumi Adesina.
The discussions focused on the initiative for the Adaptation of African Agriculture (AAA), led by Morocco and presented at the COP22 in Marrakech, said a statement from the ministry of Agriculture.
At this meeting, which was attended by Côte d’Ivoire’s minister of Agriculture, Sangafowa Coulibaly, the two sides discussed the means to implement this initiative.
On this occasion, Adesina expressed the AfDB's support for this action, "paying tribute to HM King Mohammed VI's commitment to the development of sustainable agriculture in Africa, notably through the initiative for the Adaptation of African Agriculture,” the statement added.
The AAA initiative, which aims to reduce the vulnerability of Africa and its agriculture to climate change, promotes and fosters the implementation of specific projects to improve soil management, agricultural water control, climate risk management and capacity building & funding solutions.
The initiative is an important response not only to climate change, but also to food insecurity.
