Morocco Approves Bill to Establish National Child Protection Agency

Morocco’s Government Council on Thursday approved a draft bill to create the National Agency for Child Protection, along with child protection centers and social care facilities, the Ministry Delegate for Relations with Parliament said in a press release.

The bill, presented by Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi, aims to strengthen the legislative and institutional framework for child protection, aligning with the priorities set by HM King Mohammed VI in the context of national reforms and social development projects.

The proposed agency will be a public institution with legal and financial autonomy, tasked with implementing state policies to protect children and promote their rights.

According to the government, the bill addresses a range of legal and practical challenges facing institutional child protection in Morocco, including legislative gaps, fragmented oversight, and coordination difficulties among multiple stakeholders. It also seeks to account for the specific needs of different categories of children.

The new agency is expected to serve as a central authority to improve coordination and effectiveness in the delivery of child protection services across the country.
