Morocco made a standout appearance at the 2025 edition of Design Show Australia, a premier event for interior design and architecture in the Asia-Pacific region, by showcasing the excellence of its traditional craftsmanship and the vitality of its contemporary creative scene.
Coordinated in partnership with the Embassy of Morocco in Canberra, the Moroccan delegation at the event, which took place from Thursday to Saturday in Melbourne, southern Australia, included representatives from the Maison de l’Artisan and internationally renowned designer Hicham Lahlou.
The Moroccan participation aimed to promote the country’s artisanal know-how among industry professionals while bolstering economic, cultural, and institutional exchanges between Morocco and Australia.
The Design Show Australia brought together over 250 international exhibitors representing more than 1,000 products and brands and hosted around 90 expert-led conferences. The 2025 edition established itself as a dynamic platform for contemporary interior design, innovation, and sustainable solutions, connecting global suppliers with key players in residential, commercial and hospitality sectors.
Against this backdrop, Morocco’s participation offered a unique opportunity to highlight its most innovative design and artisanal brands, especially as the Australian market anticipates over $4.3 billion in contract opportunities in the coming year.
On the sidelines of the show, the Embassy of Morocco organized a comprehensive program for the Moroccan delegation, including roundtables in Melbourne and Sydney and visits to design-focused universities. These initiatives sought not only to establish ties with Australian industry players but also to explore academic and professional collaboration opportunities between the two countries.
Among the highlights of Morocco’s participation was a conference titled “Arab Perspectives, Global Solutions,” which spotlighted the Arab world’s, and particularly Morocco’s, contributions to global design.
Designer Hicham Lahlou drew significant attention with a keynote on the role of human-centered design in building inclusive, sustainable cities. He also delivered a presentation on intercultural dialogue and the use of design as a tool of cultural diplomacy to address pressing global challenges, from sustainability to social inclusion.
