Morocco remains a model country of democratization in the region, said, Wednesday in Rabat, Council of Europe Deputy Secretary General, Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, stressing the European Union's willingness to further promote cooperation with the Kingdom in the field of rule of law.

Battaini-Dragoni told the press after her meeting with Justice minister, Mohamed Aujjar, that Morocco has conducted a thorough and comprehensive reform of its judicial system, noting that 2011, which saw the adoption of the kingdom's new constitution, is a key year and a "culmination of many years of commitment to the consolidation of human rights and the building of the rule of law".

“We have come as a delegation of the Council of Europe to present a new cooperation program in the field of Justice and we laud the kingdom’s action to promote democracy as well as its important and structural changes at the political level," she pointed out.

“Thanks to its expertise and great resources, Morocco is and will remain a major partner for the European Union in handling migration issues and combating transnational crime and terrorism,” noted Battaini-Dragoni, adding that Morocco’s security strategy, its fight against terrorism and “de-radicalisation” policy testify to its “good will to move forward with reforms".

For his part, Aujjar shed light on Morocco’s numerous reforms in the area of judicial administration, highlighting, in this regard, the actions undertaken by HM King Mohammed VI to strengthen the rule of law and establish good judicial governance.

He also underlined the Kingdom’s desire to raise security relations as well as cooperation on illegal immigration and the fight against terrorism to a higher level, adding that this new program with the European Union stems from the common will to establish a solid basis for the independence of the judiciary, which Morocco has constantly put forward.
