Morocco's House of Councillors to Host Conference on Parliament, Moroccan Sahara

“Parliament and the Moroccan Sahara issue: for efficient parallel diplomacy and effective institutional advocacy” is the theme of a national colloquium to be held on Monday at the House of Councillors, at the initiative of the Temporary Thematic Working Group on Territorial Integrity.

This initiative is part of the Temporary Working Group's agenda, which also includes a series of activities such as hearing sessions, workshops, the follow-up of contributions and academic work carried out by bodies dealing with the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, as well as the study of a rich documentary collection covering the various aspects of the subject, the Chamber said in a press release. 

In addition to the opening session devoted to speeches by political parties, the program for this event includes two thematic sessions dealing respectively with the question of Moroccan Sahara, related developments and the prospects for a final settlement of this issue, as well as the legal approach to the matter. 

The conference's will culminate in a report containing conclusions and recommendations drawn up by political, academic and civil society players, as well as experts on the issue. 

"This meeting,” the press release continues, ”takes place against the backdrop of the ongoing momentum of achievements and progress made by the Kingdom to reach a definitive settlement of the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. 

It also falls in line with the mobilization preserve these gains, the same source adds, noting that parliamentary diplomacy constitutes a major front to reinforce the international momentum of support for this national question. 

The Temporary Thematic Working Group on Territorial Integrity was put in place under the provisions of the House of Councillors' rules of procedure.
