Morocco’s flag carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has been designated the official carrier of the 36th São Paulo Biennial, Latin America’s leading contemporary art event, scheduled from September 6, 2025, to January 11, 2026.
According to a press release from RAM’s office in Brazil, this unprecedented partnership positions the Moroccan airline as a logistical and cultural bridge between Africa, Brazil, and other countries of the Global South.
The same source noted that RAM, which resumed operations in Brazil eight months ago, will handle the transport of participating artists and artworks, thereby facilitating the event’s logistics.
This cooperation is both operational and strategic, the release stresses, as the 2025 edition, held under the theme “Not All Travelers Walk Roads – Of Humanity as Practice”, brings together artists from diverse backgrounds and highlights perspectives from the Global South, with a strong presence of world-renowned creators from Africa, Latin America, and Asia.
Transporting artworks requires robust infrastructure, specialized logistics, and an integrated air network capable of bringing works and artists to Brazil from regions with limited or no direct connections.
Thanks to its transcontinental connectivity via regular flights linking São Paulo and Casablanca, the airline serves over 90 destinations across Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America. Several African participants in the Biennial will arrive in São Paulo via Casablanca, providing an efficient alternative for the exhibition’s international logistics.
Sponsorship of the Biennial forms part of RAM’s institutional activities, which for years have supported film, music, and contemporary art festivals as part of its soft power strategy and efforts to foster closer ties among cultures of the Global South.
