A Spanish delegation from the municipality of La Oliva (Fuerteventura Island, Canary Islands) visited Dakhla on Thursday to learn about the region’s development momentum and major structuring projects currently underway in Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.
Led by the Mayor of La Oliva, Isai Blanco Marrero, the visit provided an opportunity to explore the region’s assets and infrastructure across various productive sectors.
“This visit was fruitful and allowed the delegation to take note of the efforts made to reinforce development in the region at all levels, particularly in the economy and infrastructure,” Marrero told the press following a meeting with the wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, governor of Oued Eddahab Province, Ali Khalil, attended by the President of the Dakhla Communal Council, Erragheb Hormatollah, and the President of the Provincial Council, Mohamed Salem Hammia.
For his part, the President of the Dakhla Communal Council, Erragheb Hormatollah, said that the Spanish delegation, having been briefed on the various programs and projects underway in the region, expressed admiration for the sustained regional development momentum.
He added that this meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on the means of bolstering cooperation between the cities of Dakhla and La Oliva.
In turn, the President of the Oued Eddahab Provincial Council emphasized that the meeting highlighted key achievements and major development projects in the region, including the Dakhla Atlantic Port and the seawater desalination plant, as well as agricultural initiatives.
The Spanish delegation also held talks with the Vice President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, Mbarek Hammia, who underscored the region’s investment potential, particularly in fishing, tourism, agriculture, and renewables.
In this regard, he noted that the region, due to its strategic position as the Kingdom’s gateway to the depth of Africa, has become a prime investment destination offering promising prospects.
The program also includes field visits to key ongoing projects in the region, notably the construction site of the Dakhla Atlantic Port.
