Following the publication of the National human rights council's thematic report on the situation of immigrants and refugees in Morocco, the sovereign "reiterated conviction that the migration problematic, object of legitimate concerns and sometimes of controversies, should be addressed in a comprehensive and humanist manner, in keeping with the international law and within the framework of renovated multilateral cooperation," the official told the high-level dialog on "international migration and development", held on the sidelines of the UN general assembly.

He added that Morocco which shifted from an emitting country to a transit and host country "is making double efforts to support Moroccan expatriates and adopt strategic, legal and institutional instruments, matching international standards, to manage the stay of aliens on its territory".

Morocco has already started defining first steps of a work plan for a new migration policy, he went on stressing that as an office for refugees and stateless persons which will be endeavoring with the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) opened in Rabat, the first hearing of 953 refugees, whose status was established by the HCR has started.
