Amplio eco en los medios internacionales de la reafirmación por Estados Unidos de su reconocimiento de la soberanía de Marruecos sobre el Sahara

The United States' reaffirmed recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara made the headlines in international media, in line with the stance conveyed by President Donald Trump to His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated this position in a meeting with Morocco's Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in Washington on Tuesday.

Reuters along with the news sites Usnews.com and Axios report that the United States "continues to believe that genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the only feasible solution" to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

Citing the U.S. State Department Spokesperson, Tammy Bruce, both media outlets add that President Trump urges "the parties to engage in discussions without delay, using Morocco's Autonomy Proposal as the only framework, to negotiate a mutually acceptable solution."

During the phone call between HM King Mohammed VI and the U.S. President Donald Trump in December 2020, the latter had informed the Sovereign of a presidential proclamation, issued with all the undeniable legal and political force that this act entails, effective immediately, announcing the U.S. decision to recognize the Kingdom's full sovereignty over the entire region of the Moroccan Sahara.

In a similar vein, American news channels NBC and CBS, as well as Radio France Internationale (RFI) and the magazine Jeune Afrique, report that the U.S. Secretary of State reiterated that his country recognizes Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara and supports the proposal for serious, credible, and realistic autonomy as the only basis for a just and lasting solution to this dispute.

For their part, the U.S. magazine Barron’s and the Singaporean daily The Strait Times also echoed the Secretary of State’s statement, indicating the the U.S. "continues to believe that genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the only feasible solution."

The Spanish news agency EFE reports that Washington considers the Moroccan autonomy proposal as "the only framework for negotiating a mutually acceptable solution" within the Kingdom's sovereignty.

Similarly, the other Spanish digital media outlet Atlantico Hoy emphasizes that the U.S. administration under Donald Trump has reiterated its "full support" for Morocco's position on the Sahara, recalling his call for the parties to engage in discussions without delay, clearly indicating that he considered no other scenario" than the Moroccan autonomy proposal.

News agencies Apanews and Anadolu, for their part, report that the U.S. Secretary of State reiterated in Washington the consistent position of his country in favor of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara, calling the autonomy proposal "serious, credible, and realistic."
