Morocco Regularizes Status Of Around 18,000 Migrants In 2014
Morocco has regularized the status of 17,916 migrants in 2014, out of 27,332 applications, an approval rate of 65 pc, Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, Drais Cherki, said Monday in Salé.
Moroccan authorities approved all applications from women and children (about 10,178), Drais said at a press conference convened to present the quasi-final results of this operation, which ended on December 31, 2014.
The operation, officially launched in November 2013, has benefited nationals from 116 nationalities, led by the Senegalese (6,600), followed by Syrians (5,250), Nigerians (2,380) and Ivorians (2,281), Drais added.
This operation has largely achieved the desired results, since it has involved over 90 pc of illegal migrants in Morocco, while estimates had forecast an estimated number between 25,000 and 30,000 migrants
