Government Assures Readiness for 2025 AFCON, 2030 World Cup Arrangements on Track

The Ministry of the Interior held a meeting on Friday to review the progress of key projects planned ahead of two landmark sporting events that are taking place in the Kingdom, namely the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Regarding the World Cup, discussions focused on several core areas, including stadium construction, infrastructure development, and urban renewal, each essential to meeting international standards. As for AFCON 2025, all necessary measures are being implemented to ensure the tournament's success.

The focus was primarily placed on the commitment of all stakeholders to a regular monitoring system, ensuring rigorous management of these continental and global events, which represent opportunities to strengthen the Morocco's international influence and to inject new momentum into the national economy.

In a statement to the press following the meeting, the Chairman of the World Cup 2030 Committee, Fouzi Lekjaa, noted that the meeting was held following the adoption on Thursday of the bill to set up the “Morocco 2030 Foundation.

The latter will be tasked with coordinating the efforts of the various stakeholders in Morocco and abroad, with a view to making a success of this large-scale national project.

The official said that the work is underway in the various Moroccan cities to run the two major sporting events. As far as the AFCON is concerned, work will be completed a few months before the start of the tournament, which will highlight and consolidate the Kingdom's exceptional organizational capacities, he asserted.
