The Mohammed VI University Hospital Center (CHU) in Agadir, which is set to be commissioned in execution of the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, is a leading academic and medical hub which will ensure further complementarity in the Souss-Massa regional health map, while offering state-of-the-art training for new generations of professionals.
With a capacity of 867 beds, the new Agadir CHU, built on a 30-hectare site (127,000m² built-up area) near the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, mobilized investments worth approximately MAD 3.1 billion.
The Mohammed VI CHU in Agadir is modern in its architecture, the quality of care it offers, the integration of new cutting-edge technologies, and its adherence to the principles of sustainability and energy efficiency, notably through the installation of photovoltaic panels.
As a public establishment providing tertiary care and services, this Hospital Center will fulfill missions related to care, training, research, expertise, innovation, and public health. To this end, it includes a "Mother-Child" division with units for neonatal resuscitation, pediatric surgery, and pediatric emergency care, guaranteeing comprehensive and integrated management. It also features a "Medical-Surgical" division that encompasses medical and surgical hospitalization units, equipped with the latest generation of equipment and furniture.
The new CHU also boasts a "Cardiology Center of Excellence" with 42 beds, including 20 in intensive care, which also includes two catheterization laboratories, an electrophysiology (rhythmology) room, and a comprehensive rehabilitation unit. This cardiology center ensures the complete management of coronary and heart rhythm diseases. Its equipment, conforming to international standards, allows for the performance of angioplasty, electrophysiological exploration, and very high-resolution intravascular imaging procedures.
Equipped with a "Radiology" division featuring two Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines, one with a cardiac module, three Computed Tomography (CT) scanners, four digital operating tables, and two mammography machines, the Agadir University Hospital is the first facility in Africa to integrate the "Revo I" surgical robot into its technical platform. This robot enables minimally invasive procedures with micrometric precision, high-definition 3D vision, and unprecedented operational comfort for both the surgeon and the patient.
It further houses an operating theater complex comprising 19 rooms, an emergency operating theater complex of 5 rooms, a room dedicated to major burns, resuscitation units, a laboratory, and an integrated system for training and simulation.
Similarly, to ensure patient safety and quality of care, the Mohammed VI CHU in Agadir is equipped with a complete Sterilization Central Unit (washer-disinfectors, saturated steam autoclaves, and automated packaging zones ensuring instrument traceability and maximum patient safety), as well as a Central Pharmacy featuring a medicine dispensing robot. This robot guarantees secure preparation and automated delivery to hospital departments, a regional first.
As part of optimizing patient management and quality of care, the new University Hospital utilizes the Hospital Information System, an integrated digital platform based on the concept of a shared digital patient file that centralizes all patient data: administrative data, medical records, and care records.
Available in both primary healthcare facilities and hospital establishments, this system, which constitutes one of the pillars of the national health system overhaul, allows healthcare professionals to access the patient's medical data at any time via a card and/or bracelet given to the patient. The goal is to accelerate medical management and improve efficiency.
Directly in line with the objectives of the Agadir City Urban Development Program, which gives a prominent place to the expansion of health services, the realization of the "Mohammed VI" University Hospital Center in Agadir will contribute, alongside the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, to the emergence of a genuine medical hub of excellence in the Souss-Massa region.
