Morocco Has Adopted Voluntary Policy To Promote Human Rights, Comparison To Other Countries, 'Inconceivable'

Morocco has adopted a voluntary and systematic policy which aims to protect and promote human rights across the nation, and it is inconceivable to make comparison to other countries regarding the considerable reforms adopted in this field, said communication minister and government spokesperson, Mustapha El Khalfi.

"Morocco has adopted a voluntary and systemic policy which aims to protect and promote human rights across the nation, including the south provinces", said the minister in a statement to MAP, commenting on Amnesty International's latest report.

El Khalfi said the report of Juan E. Méndez, Special Rapporteur on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, on the human rights situation in Morocco, presented on March 2014 before the UN Human Rights Council, confirms this assessment.

Méndez, who visited Morocco in September 2012, welcomed the Kingdom's openness to an objective and independent assessment of the human right situation, and stressed the emergence of a human rights culture in the country, the minister said.
