NATO Deputy Secretary General Paying Visit to Morocco

NATO Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, is paying a visit to Morocco on February 18-19.
Ambassador Vershbow will meet with Minister-Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, Minister-Delegate for National Defense, Abdelatif Loudiyi and other high level officials, NATO said in a release.
On February 19, Ambassador Vershbow will participate in a Public Diplomacy Seminar on "NATO-Morocco cooperation in the framework of the Mediterranean Dialogue", where he will deliver opening remarks, the same source added.
FAR General Inspector Receives NATO Deputy Secretary General
Upon high instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), General de Corps d'Armée, FAR General Inspector and Commander of the Southern zone received, here Thursday, NATO Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Alexander Vershbow.
These talks tackled military cooperation between Morocco and NATO, the FAR General Staff said in a statement, adding that this cooperation is focused primarily on training activities at the Alliance training centers, exchange of expertise and forces interoperability.
The two sides also discussed means to further strengthen and expand this cooperation to other fields, expressing their satisfaction with the excellent partnership ties between FAR and NATO military command, the statement said.
They also discussed security situation in Sahel and Mediterranean regions, as well as counter terrorism, the same source noted.
Morocco’s relations with NATO are governed by NATO’s Individual Partnership and Cooperation Program, a multidimensional action plan aimed at reinforcing capabilities and interoperability in the field of defense.

Morocco-NATO Ties, 'Success Story' Dating Back to 20 Years Ago, Says NATO Deputy Secretary General
Cooperation relations between Morocco and NATO are a "success story" dating back to more than 20 years, NATO Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, said here Friday.
"My visit to Morocco seeks to examine means to consolidate partnership between Morocco and NATO an deepen bilateral political consultations in the light of the growing security challenges that face Mediterranean countries", Vershbow told the press following his talks with Minister-Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Nasser Bourita.
He stressed the need for expanding cooperation between the two sides to encompass other political and economic fields, adding that they tackled, on this occasion, Moroccan-NATO partnership and security challenges in Libya and the Sahel region.
NATO Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, is heading an important delegation on a visit to Morocco on February 18-19.
He seized this opportunity to brief the Moroccan minister on the upcoming NATO Summit, scheduled in Warsaw in July.
For his part, Bourita said that NATO Deputy Secretary General’s visit represents recognition of the important role played by Morocco, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI to promote regional peace and stability.
Morocco’s experience and expertise in dealing with security challenges are widely recognized, he said, adding that this visit was an opportunity for NATO officials to get informed about Morocco’s positions and vision, which are judged as pertinent.
The Moroccan minister also hailed the excellent relations between Morocco and NATO, pointing out that they are founded on the mutual respect and cooperation in well targeted fields.
