During a meeting with Morocco's ambassador to Indonesia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Redouane Houssaini, President of Indonesia's People's Consultative Assembly Ahmad Muzani stressed the importance of translating the friendship between the two countries into concrete, mutually beneficial partnerships across areas of common interest, expressing his readiness to contribute to the effort.
Muzani welcomed an invitation from the ambassador to visit Morocco in 2027, as part of efforts by both sides to give fresh impetus to parliamentary cooperation and institutional exchanges. The visit would take place in the context of the role of Indonesia's People's Consultative Assembly, a constitutional institution comprising members of the House of Representatives and the Regional Representative Council, which Muzani is chairing for the 2024-2029 term.
Houssaini, for his part, highlighted the depth of the historical and people-to-people ties between Morocco and Indonesia, as well as the quality of their political relations, stressing the need to further translate these ties into stronger economic and trade cooperation.
The ambassador also underscored the complementarities between the two economies and called for greater direct contact between Moroccan and Indonesian business operators to foster new partnerships and make better use of the potential of bilateral trade.
Both officials also discussed opportunities in tourism, particularly its cultural and spiritual dimensions, noting growing interest among Indonesian visitors in Moroccan cities with strong historical and spiritual significance, notably Fez and Marrakech.
They also highlighted cultural and academic cooperation, including the hosting of Indonesian students at Moroccan educational institutions, saying stronger exchanges in these areas represent an investment in human capital and a lasting avenue for bringing the two peoples closer.
Parliamentary cooperation was also identified as an area for further development, notably through reviving the Morocco-Indonesia parliamentary friendship group and stepping up exchanges between the two countries' institutions.
