3rd World Power-to-X Summit on Green Hydrogen Kicks Off in Marrakech
The third edition of the "World Power-to-X Summit" (PTX23) kicked off Tuesday in Marrakech, featuring the participation of numerous political decision-makers, industry leaders, research experts, and global innovators.
Placed under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI and the aegis of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, this edition is organized by the Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN), the GreenH2 Cluster and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, in partnership with the Guelmim Oued Noun Regional Council and Industrie du Maroc Magazine.
During the event, Mohammed Yahya Zniber, Chairman of the GreenH2 Cluster, emphasized that the emerging green hydrogen-based economy presents an opportunity to address climate change and migration challenges. He highlighted the importance of implementing industrial strategies, establishing policies to ensure technological sovereignty, and fostering international cooperation through technology sharing.
Zniber pointed out that hydrogen and its derivatives, particularly methanol, are crucial for achieving a comprehensive transition in the local energy sector across the entire hydrogen value chain.
Samir Rachidi, Director General of IRESEN, for his part, emphasized the notable achievements of the Moroccan automotive and aeronautical industries, expressing his support for the Green Ammonia Pilot Plant (GAPP) project, which is focused on innovation, green hydrogen, and their various applications. It aims to strengthen Morocco's capabilities in this sector.
The World Power-to-X Summit serves as a leading platform for catalyzing regional and international dialogue around the opportunities and challenges of the industrial, logistical and technological value chain of green hydrogen and its applications.
With the theme for this year being "Unleashing green hydrogen and clean molecules for a carbon-free future," the third edition of PTX holds particular significance amid a global energy crisis heightened by accelerating geopolitical tensions and reorganizations.
On a national level, it takes on a significant dimension thanks to the dynamism spurred on by His Majesty the King, who has given His High Instructions to deploy an operational and incentivizing "Morocco Offer". This ambitious initiative aims to position Morocco as a regional leader and African hub in the hydrogen field, drawing on its natural assets, national strategy and solid international partnerships.
