Morocco, Strategic Partner For Europe

Morocco is a "strategic and important" partner for Europe at all levels, Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja said on Tuesday in Rabat.

"Relations between Morocco and the European Union are very good," said Tuomioja in a statement to the press following talks with Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar.

The EU and Morocco are working together to find to address the challenges at the security, social and economic levels, Tuomioja said.

The Finnish Minister also expressed satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations with Morocco while highlighting promising prospects for further strengthening economic and cultural ties.

For his part, Mezouar, underscored the mutual respect, and spirit of cooperation characterising the Moroccan-Finnish relations.

The Moroccan Minister raised, in this respect, the importance of security cooperation with Finland, adding that the Scandinavian country is interested in Morocco’s experience in training Imams.

Echoing his Finnish counterpart, Mezouar also stressed the need for promoting cultural cooperation ties.

Other regional and international issues of common concern were also tackled during the talks.

On the same occasion, the two Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish mechanisms for political consultations between Morocco and Finland.
