New Immigration And Asylum Policy: Morocco Opens Refugee And Stateless Persons Office

 Morocco opened in Rabat an office for refugees and stateless persons which will be endeavoring with the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to examine asylum requests.

 The office was opened in accordance with Royal instructions related to the adoption of a new, humane and comprehensive immigration policy and with the subsequent work plan devised by the government.

 It is placed under the authority of the ministry of foreign affairs and cooperation.

 Asylum requests (a total of 853 cases established by the HCR) will be examined with priority to be given to humanitarian cases, says a release of the ministry of foreign affairs and cooperation.

  An ad hoc commission comprising representatives of the departments of foreign affairs and cooperation, interior, justice and freedoms, labor and vocational training, the inter-ministerial delegation for human rights and a representative of the UNHCR in Rabat will see to the respect of a flexible and efficient approach in examining the cases.

    A single-stop office will deliver receipts to asylum seeker, pending the granting of the refugee status by the office of refugees and stateless persons, the release explains.

     A joint memo by the ministry of foreign affairs and cooperation and the interior ministry had set conditions for delivering stay documents for eligible persons.
